The townships of Head, Clara and Maria have a full municipal council once again.
Council agreed last week to appoint Nancy Rose to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of former councillor Dave Foote at the beginning of April.
Foote became the third member of townships council to resign within the last year, after former mayor Jim Gibson and councillor Debbi Grills tendered their resignations last July.
Councillors Cathy McKay and Ernie Villeneuve were appointed in September to fill those vacancies, while sitting councillor Bob Reid agreed to be appointed to fill the position of mayor.
There were three candidates for the vacant council seat this time around – townships residents Rose, Karen Leclerc and Patrick McGurran.
According to townships policy, each was asked to prepare an application for the position and then given an opportunity to address council for up to 10 minutes before the selection for appointment was made.
Drawn by lot, Rose was the first to address council.
Rose said she felt she would make the best representative for council because she is a “local girl, raised right here in the Valley.”
“I went to school here and attended alongside many of our neighbours. I can relate to their lifestyle, concerns and expectations,” she said.
