It’s a new era in Blue Box recycling in Deep River.
Beginning this week, for the first time since the Blue Box program began almost 30 years ago, Deep River residents will be asked to put their recycling out every week.
Recycling will be collected in two “streams” – “fibre” beginning this week, and “container recycling” (plastics and glass) beginning next week.
The two streams will alternate weekly after that. A collection calendar indicating which week is which is available from the town website, <www.deepriver.ca>.
The move to weekly recycling is part of the town’s new five-year waste management contract with Canadian Waste Management (CWM).
Council awarded the five-year contract for the collection of both garbage and recycling this spring.
The previous garbage and recycling contracts, with P&G Pumping and Beaumen Waste Management respectively, expired Sunday, September 30.
Tenders for the contract went out at the beginning of April, and firms submitting bids were given the option of bidding on garbage collection only, recycling collection only, or the combination of both.
