There appears to be lots of interest in Deep River’s 2018 municipal election, as close to a quarter of the town’s eligible voters had “gone to the polls” already by Monday, one week ahead of the official election day October 22.
Of course, “gone to the polls” means something a little different this time around.
For the second election in a row, Deep River is using electronic and telephone voting to cast its ballots.
All electors on the voter’s list should by now have received a notice in the mail with a personalized PIN to use either online or by calling in to the voting hotline.
According to figures posted on the town’s website, 700 voters, or 22 per cent of the eligible electors, had already exercised their democratic right and placed their votes as of Monday.
For residents who are not comfortable using the electronic or telephone voting system, assistance is also available at the town hall during business hours.
The polls will remain open next Monday until 8 pm.
Final election results are expected to be released at approximately 8:30 pm.
