CNL launches new welcome program

The research and development organization at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) played host to a special kind of reception last week.

Held at the JL Gray Centre in Deep River, the event launched an initiative aimed at supporting the partners and spouses of CNL employees who are settling into their new lives here in the Ottawa Valley. Continue reading

Editorial: Municipal lame ducks

Several articles have been published recently in the NRT involving “lame ducks” – specifically whether Deep River council should delegate authority to the chief administrative officer prior to the upcoming municipal election in case it gets caught in the “lame duck” situation.

My concern is not how council decides to proceed, but rather that it is placed in this predicament at all. The problem is the Ontario Municipal Act. Continue reading

Yakabuski rolls to huge win

Despite being re-elected to a fourth consecutive term in office, John Yakabuski was grim-faced as he watched the Ontario election results roll in, showing Kathleen Wynne’s Liberals had just won a majority government.
